Shooting Parties

Shooting parties form part of the estate’s history, with days taking place since Victorian times at the elegant Holfield Grange, built in 1888.

Holfield Grange

Now 150 to 350 mixed bird days are hosted from the Shoot Room in the Grange’s red brick courtyard, carefully converted within the former stables and tack rooms providing a comfortable and atmospheric setting.

Shoot day

A shoot day begins at Holfield with host, Christopher Hill explaining over a cup of tea or coffee how the day will run.

The usual format is four drives before lunch, with a break after the second drive when guests are offered a mug of soup or something stronger. Following the final morning drives, it’s a return to the Shoot Room for drinks and a two course lunch; a hot winter dish followed by cheese, biscuits and fruit. Should you have a favourite dish then we are happy to arrange this in advance with the cook. After lunch, the party then returns to the gun wagon for one or two drives in the afternoon.

At the end of the day guests return to the Shoot Room for tea and will be given a brace of birds either from the Game Larder or oven ready.

Our days are tailor made to suit a guest and their party’s needs. All guests must bring their own equipment. Beginners are welcomed however they must be accompanied by an experienced shot.

Shooting parties provide an excellent corporate day out; London is within very easy reach of the Holfield Grange Estate and comfortable hotel accommodation is available in the nearby historic small market town of Coggeshall.

Deer shooting

Fallow, Roe and Muntjac deer are found on the Estate. Dawn or dusk outings for experienced shots accompanied by our game keeper can also be arranged.
